Wrongful Death Suit Filed Over 2 Workers Killed on I-75

Early last month two teenage workers were tightening a barrier cable along Interstate 75 when they were struck and killed by a pickup truck. Last week a wrongful death lawsuit was filed against T and T Trucking. The lawsuit alleges that T and T driver James Hatfield was either texting, asleep, or under the influence of something when he veered off the road and struck the two workers. The News-Sentinel has more:

Hatfield’s truck went off the roadway, struck the two workers and knocked down numerous metal fence posts before coming to rest about 100 yards from the initial impact point, investigators said.

Hatfield, 50, sustained a minor head wound. Criminal charges are pending against him, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The lawsuit states it will rely on “all of the evidence, as it comes in, to make a full, fair and accurate determination as to the exact form of negligence.”

The complaint alleges Hatfield was speeding and failed to have the truck under control.

3 Killed, One Hurt in Claiborne County Crash

A Sunday evening drive proved fatal for a mother and two children in New Tazewell. Della Bussell, her daughter Brianna, and her son James were killed as they traveled down Highway 33. Della lost control of the vehicle and overcorrected, veering into the oncoming lane of traffic. Her 1991 Mercedes crossed in front of a 2003 Dodge Dakota driven by Bradley Baker, 17. Baker tried to avoid the collision by veering but the vehicles collided head on. Baker was injured and transported to UT Medical Center.

Baker was using a seat belt and was injured in the crash, Mabe noted. Baker was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he was listed this morning in stable condition.

Former U.S. Senator Candidate Runs Over Construction Worker

This is a disturbing case of road rage. Larry Drown, who has run unsuccessfully for several political posts including U.S. Senate, was charged with aggravated assault and gross negligence for running over a female construction worker who was flagging traffic. He then reversed his car and ran over the worker again…..allegedly. The woman was seriously injured as one would expect. Police have claimed that Drown acted intentionally. Very hard to imagine what the construction worker could have done to justify that type of response from the man. From the article:

“Police and emergency medical services (EMS) arrived at the scene of the serious accident where former U.S. Senate candidate Larry Drown, had reportedly ran over a flagging female construction worker, and then backed up over her body at the intersection of Water and Wall Streets. Investigating police determined that the incident was in fact a deliberate act.

Larry Drown was accused and was charged with aggravated assault and gross negligent operation resulting in injury. EMS transported the badly injured woman to Central Vermont Hospital located in Berlin to be treated by doctors and nurses. She was placed in critical care. Authorities did not release her name.

Candidate Larry Drown had run for statewide office four different times with no success. He then ran for U.S. Senate (2006), U.S. House (2004), Vermont secretary of state (2000) and Vermont attorney general (2002).”

Pedestrian Struck by Car, Suffers Head Trauma

In a terrifying accident, a 48-year-old man was struck by a vehicle and sustained significant head injuries in Westchester County New York. He remained in the hospital for a number of days. It does not appear that drugs or alcohol were involved but the cause of the accident is still under investigation. The driver of the vehicle was a 68-year-old female. The names of the driver and the victim have not been released.

The male pedestrian, also resident of New Rochelle, sustained head trauma in the incident. Police reported that the 48-year-old man was transported via ambulance to be treated by doctors and nurses at the Jacobi Medical Center located in the Bronx. His injuries were serious and he remained in the hospital and was still not released by Friday morning.

The driver of the vehicle was only identified as a 68-year-old female. She reportedly experienced trouble breathing and received treatment by medical personnel at Sound Shore Medical Center and was released. There have not been any charges filed and there were not any aggravating factors present at the scene of the accident.
