Trailer Fire Kills One, Despite Dramatic Rescue Effort

In Northeast Knox County there was a mobile home fire that proved fatal for one man and could have been fatal for his would-be rescuers. At about 8:30 last night a fire crew was summoned to a burning trailer. Witnesses at the scene told the crew there was someone inside still. At great personal risk the firefighters entered the home and found the man in the bedroom with no pulse. The fire consumed the rescue route they used to get to the man so they passed him through a window and then used that window to escape the advancing flames. Unfortunately their efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. Fortunately, however, their own lives were not claimed by the fire.

The News-Sentinel reports no other injuries. An investigator was on scene this morning to determine what started the fire.
